RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Editing-Expected to edit stories to conform to AP and Duluth News Tribune style. Stories should be free of grammatical errors or misspellings. Stories should be accurate, clear and balanced. Stories should be tightened when possible in an effort to help readers conserve their time. Major changes should be communicated to city editor or reporter first.Headline writing-Expected to write headlines that capture the tone and impact of a story without compromising accuracy. Headlines should be compelling and let readers know at a glance why the story is worth their time. Headlines should reflect a solid vocabulary, with strong verbs and a sense of playfulness when appropriate.Page design/Web site-Expected to know the basics of modular page design and the specifics of News Tribune design style. Should be able to produce eye-catching pages using Quark Xpress. Must know how to post, edit and manage content on duluthnewstribune.com.ProofreadingExpected to be able to quickly check the work of colleagues to be sure it's accurate and complete. Should be able to provide helpful feedback in an effort to improve the newspaper as a whole. Deadlines-Expected to produce pages by their assigned deadlines. Expected to provide proofing and other timely assistance to help colleagues meet deadlines.Production-Expected to produce perform basic photo management tasks, including downloading, sizing and cropping, and toning.Reader focus: Responsible for meeting the needs of our readers-Through market research and community contact, expected to understand who our readers are and shape the content and design of the newspaper to meet their needs; expected to use information to identify opportunities for new products and coverage to serve our readershipQUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:Flexibility is important. A typical week consists of evening shifts and often includes weekends and holidays. Time off may be in split shifts. Must be capable of handling deadline stress and working at deadline pace.
